I am delighted to announce that my composition Mundus Imaginalis for piano and strings was awarded second prize at the IVth Uuno Klami International Composition Competition.  Along with four other finalists, Pertti Jalava, Andrea Portera, Tomi Raisanen, and Roberto Sansuini, I spent 5 extaordinary days in Helsinki, Kotka, and Kuovola rehearsing and performing our five unperformed works with the Kymi Sinfonietta under the direction of Olari Elts.

Finalists L to R: Roberto Sansuini, Andrea Portera, Pertti Jalava, Tomi Raisanen, Christopher Culpo

It was exhilarating, exhausting, intense, surprising, and rewarding. The orchestra performed wonderfully, Maestro Elts was outstanding, and I had the great privilege of working with Risto-Matti Marin, a remarkable musician.

The jury consisted of Maestro Elts and three outstanding composers; jury Chairman Kalevi Aho, Magnus Lindberg, and Erkki-Sven Tuur.
